Welcome to Canaan Farm

This is a diary of our Garden ,we are a family of 8, Mumma ,Papa and our 6 children.We all like to garden. Some water,some plant, some harvest,but we all enjoy our jobs,Our Farm is 3.9 acres,we came here in sept 2008 to grow food ,have animals and enjoy the country life .There wasn't much here when we arrived just waist high weeds and the end of a 13 year drought.There is much to learn here ,our climate is mediterranean we have cool winters & hot dry summers (last year it got to 47.1c in the shade),we live in the Wimmera region,Western Victoria,Australia right in the middle of a farming community that grow mass amounts of wheat,lentils,canola,&chickpeas. We are turning our small farm into our own little garden of Eden

Ezekiel 36:35 They will say, "This land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden;

Nice start to a new Season

The Children & I spend yesterday clearing out the greenhouse that had become a jungle,leaving a few melon plants, a lettuce an a eggplant.

not the best quality pics i took them on my phone

Found a great article on how to know when to harvest your figs which is helpful because my first fig tree I tried one that I now know was underipe I thought it was disgusting so i thru the tre in the bin...but I found out I was rather hasty and bought another one and I have been nice to her and she is being nice back I have 7 figs on my tiny tree and they are beginning to ripen look here http://www.tallcloverfarm.com/351/how-to-know-when-a-fig-is-ripe-and-ready-to-pick  to see what it should look like fully ripened

I think I told ya'll how i got 6 banana plants then 4 just seem to die on my but left behind the tiniest bit of a pup,well i potted all those tiny bits up and look they have done so well..hoping one day they will feed us

Right thru the bananas are the 2 passionfruit vines this is their 3rd season and the have not done as well as usual(not much else has either thou) we have a few passionfuits on the vine thou
What has done really well and gets a gold star for growth and fruit production this year is the pomegrante tree,its just taken off..So there you have it,I guess its time to get into gear and start some seedlings off and get the cabbage,cauli's and broccoli in..chat soon & happy gardening

  2. Look at that tidy greenhouse, that must feel good to have it all ripped out and ready for the next plantings.

    I love pomegranates too, tough as buggery and like bush Christmas trees.

    Toot.
